FCI London: Our Story

In 1985, an enterprising couple set up a small furniture shop called FCI. In those pre-internet days, if you wanted beautiful designer furniture, you had to go out on the road and find it - and that is exactly what they did. Along with a translator who today remains a close friend, they drove through the villages and small towns of Italy visiting tiny artisan workshops and creating relationships with local craftsmen. They became skilled at finding high-quality pieces and unique designs which they brought back to the UK market. Many of these small artisan workshops grew into what we know today as some of the biggest brands to come out of Italy, first introduced to the UK public by FCI. They cemented the company's reputation for finding undiscovered gems by unknown designers who would go on to become the next big thing in luxury furniture.

An exquisite piece of furniture is nothing short of art. At FCI, we believe in the power of beautiful design to transform not just spaces, but souls. We believe that transformative spaces should be accessible to everyone, from luxury houses in London to impoverished schools in India. This is what drives us - the forging of beautiful, positive spaces that bring genuine happiness to the people who inhabit them. By creating a community of people who share in this happiness, it is our hope that people will be inspired to pay it forward.

FCI: The Pathway To Success

When FCI first opened its doors in North London, it was a small 5000 sq. ft showroom with a big dream. In the past three decades, we have expanded our floor space to 30 000 ft, working with over 700 brands to become one of the largest luxury furniture and interiors brands in the UK. The company is still family-owned and run, and their passion and roots in furniture design, manufacturing and interiors run deep.

As we've grown, we've set our sights beyond the UK's borders and we've created joint ventures in China, the Middle East, USA and Africa. We are currently involved in development projects in Kenya and we have a furniture showroom in Nigeria. 

Over the years, we have put together a team of people who are dynamic and dedicated. This team has travelled the world in search of the most innovative factories and little-known artisan workshops, keenly hunting for the next big thing in luxury furniture. It is this knack for sniffing out undiscovered gems that gives us our edge - you're as likely to find a unique, one-off piece by a backyard master craftsman as you are the entire new range from Cattelan Italia. We love the thrill of the hunt and we are confident that our instincts are the best in the business.

But we're not all about sending our human bloodhounds on epic quests - we also have an excellent bunch of people in our showroom who are dedicated to building relationships with the world's most respected designers. This means we're able to offer enormous flexibility to you - we can speak to our suppliers about custom creations and tailor-making products according to your preferences. Simply put, it's something you just won't find in a flatpack.

We're proud of our credentials, such as being the first company to introduce many designer brands to the British public that today are widely recognised. Most of all though, we are proud of our service record.

Putting The People Back Into The Process

With over 100 000 orders under our belt, it's fair to say that customer reviews are the backbone of what we do. Anyone can stock exclusive furniture and many others are exceptionally great at creating gorgeous interiors. We feel strongly that we do both very well. But the peg that we hang our hat on is our customer service. We've worked exceptionally hard at this and we created a clear plan of action to place ourselves a cut above the rest. So what's our secret?

The first thing is the people. We own all the necessary moving parts in-house: from the sales team to the logistics team, the installers, the fitters, the delivery vans, the warehousing, the admin – none of it is subcontracted out. When you order from us, you are dealing with an FCI employee all the way through the process. We take full responsibility and we make sure our people are the best we can find.

The second thing is...well, also the people. FCI has always been about creating a team of people where each individual shares the same core values as the company. We come from all over the world with so many different backgrounds and cultures, but we share a common goal - to create spaces that make people happy. We are quite a smiley bunch and we love what we do. We're extremely proud to work for FCI and of the company culture that we have created together. We are also committed to supporting some NPOs that are close to our hearts, because the best thing about being people-oriented is that the happiness of people is always at the forefront of what we do.

Designer Rebels

We have a team of in-house designers who offer a comprehensive interior design service. They can draw up 3D plans for your new kitchen, create a custom colour palette for your walls or simply help you find the perfect coffee table. No job is too small and no request is too complicated. They are super good at what they do, and they're also a little bit rebellious. They don't conform to "black goes with white" or "never mix multiple prints." They are passionate and inspired, and they delight in creating trends instead of following them. They'll help you overhaul your living room to create a multi-purpose space that looks like it has been there all along. They'll guide you in the concept of slow living; creating a sanctuary that allows you to connect with the peace and positivity of your home. And they'll do it with style and flair and a penchant for saying yes.
