To match or not to match; can dining chairs be a different colour than the table?
Absolutely! The table and chairs don’t have to match. Having mismatched pieces is a great way to bring visual interest to the room. If you’re confident with your decor capabilities, you can go a step further and mix styles from different eras such as combining contemporary with traditional.
To avoid creating an eyesore, use the colour wheel to see which shades work well together then build a cohesive palette around them. If you plan to have different colour chairs, ensure that they are the same shape for a balanced yet dynamic look.
OK, so your table and chairs can be the same colour but only /site-assets/blog/content/68737/mceu_75289474011673278021033.jpgif they are made of different textures. This breaks the monotony and adds depth to the look. For example, you can pair a smooth table with chairs that feature woven detail on the base seat. A failure to use different materials will result in the colour being overbearing.
That being said, the modern approach to design, however, is inclined towards combining furniture that compliments and does not match each other. The packaged dining suites look terribly uninteresting.

Chat NowColour in a room is important to get right. The choices you make will set the mood of the space and affect how you use it. As such, when you are deciding on the right shade for your dining chairs, you should consider how you intend on spending time in the area. Will it be a formal space, a casual eating room, or a multipurpose space for the whole family?
Choose neutrals as in this Scribe Greige Chair for an elegant look, and bright colours such as in the Rainbow Dining Chair by Cappellini for a fun or relaxed aesthetic.
Whatever feel you decide on, choosing chairs in a different colour from the table will make your home feel more layered. And the variation can be subtle. A black table with charcoal dining chairs is a good example of an oak table with beige chairs.
You don’t have to have bold differences, you just don’t want them to look too matchy-matchy.
Apart from varying colours, we also recommend mixing textures. An oak table with an oak dining chair or a metal dining table with metal chairs is not going to captivate the eye.
When any material is heavily repeated in a room, it overpowers the space. Your dining room will feel texturally overwhelming. So with your dining table and chairs, let one be the star and the other be the supporting player. When they’re in the same material, neither looks as special as it should.
Instead, you want every area in your home to have visual highs and lows. As your eye moves across the interior, you want it to be stimulated by one aspect, and then calmed by another.
That’s to say if you have invested in an edgy table like this Somnia Dining Table, consider adding chairs that have a softer feel to them.
Whether you decide on a monochrome look or not, your flooring is going to play a role in determining the precise shade you select for both the table and its chairs.
The biggest mistake you can make here is to have the flooring, table, and chairs all in a very similar colour and texture.
If you find yourself in this situation, a contrasting rug will help you break up the monotony. Generally, there should be some contrast, even if not dramatic, between the floor and your dining furniture. You do not want your beautiful table and chairs to drown in the background of a matching surface.
To sum it up, your dining table and chairs should be sisters, not twins. The matchy-matchy look is monotonous and outdated. Embrace a more curated look by selecting colour combinations that are unique to your taste and style.
