If you're someone who wants a statement making dining table without sacrificing a major portion of your floor space or if you want to soften up your room by adding some curves - this blog is for you. Our interior designers have selected seven pieces that they personally endorse for their material integrity, originality of their design and their ability to become the focal point of any room. We've also included a case study from a project where one of these tables was used and the result was the most stunning, award-nominated project.

Why Choose a Circular Dining Table?

Circular tables have been considered an ideal dining room choice for centuries and one of the most common reasons we hear for it is that it promotes equality. Every one on the table is at an equal distant from the center, from the food and from the conversation which makes dinners feel calm, composed and welcoming. In terms of design too, circular dining tables bring something we all love - it balances the rectilinear lines that are quite common in cabinetry, sideboards or even the overall design of the room. Eventually, all this gives more breathing room to a space by bringing down the chaos.

If I look at it from the perspective pf spatial planning, even then, these tables are remarkably efficient. In small rools where I know that rectangular four seaters would feel too tight, bringing in a well-chosen circular dining table set for 4 makes a huge difference - there are no protruding corners anymore in the circulation path which makes the flow and function of the room much better. And when you pair these elements with modern materials like Calcutta marble or Italian Murano glass - you begin to understand how the round table has evolved while keeping its place.

Today, we'll be sharing seven pieces that are loved by our design team and also by any clients who walk into the showroom. Some of these stand out because of their materials, others because of their sculptural bases but in my opinion, they check all the boxes for the finest circular dining table sets in the market currently.

Key Takeaway: A circular dining table resolves spatial planning problems as elegantly as it resolves aesthetic ones - the absence of corners improves both traffic flow and the social dynamics of a meal. It is, in almost every context, the rather sensible choice.

Our Top Picks for Circular Dining Tables

1. Lambda by Sovet Italia - The Sculptural Glass Icon

lambda circular dining table by sovet italia

Lambda by Sovet italia brings together aesthetic research and material innovation in a way that is almost impossible to find with fast furniture. Designed by Gianluigi Landoni, the beautiful base depicts the dynamism of morion and creates a beautiful, wave like effect that immediately catches the eye.

Both the glass top and the base are customisable and for anyone looking for a circular glass table, this is always my first recommendation. And while many clients opt for dark glass finish, I live the transparent finish as it makes the sculptural base fully visible, which is rather the point with a table like this.

Key Takeaway: Lambda is the best option when it comes to circular glass dining tables - a piece with a beautiful presence that is attributed mainly to its architectural base. It easily blends in all types of interiors, from minimalist to warm, contemporary or classic spaces.

2. Planer Ker-Wood Round by Cattelan Italia - The Material Conversation

Planer is something much more than just a modern dining room table - it features a start contrask, a design that plays with horizontal and vertical elements to enrich the room without taking up unnecessary space. Ker-wood round is one of our most favourite of the Planer family tables (available in more variations than one can keep track of) - it features an outer ring made from solid wood, which can either be Canaletto walnut or burned oak - all up to you of course and then the central ring is made from a ceramic insert and here too there are numerous variations to choose from.

The base too is customisable in many finishes like titanium, bronze, graphite, black embossed lacquered steel and many more - one of my personal favourites is brushed grey as it has a beautiful handcrafted character with variations in tone and texture and that is the best thing about playing with luxury materials - having a unique look every time. There is also the possibility of choosing a swivelling ceramic insert in the middle which then adds to the table's functionality and makes it even more appealing.

Some popular choices for the ceramic insert are Golden Calacatta, glossy Portoro, Sahara Noir, Breccia, Taj Mahal and Luxor. But no matter which one you choose - the result is a table that is as considered in terms of materiality as it is in terms of its structure. Overall, I would describe this table as a wood warmth meets stone drama with an architectural steel base.

Key Takeaway: The Planer Ker-Wood Round rewards close inspection - the closer you get, the more material depth you discover. It is a table for clients who want tactile complexity rather than surface simplicity, and Cattelan Italia's range of finishes make sure that it can be tuned to almost any interior palette.

3. Dakry BR 001 by al2 - The Tear-Drop Base

The Dakry BR 001 comes from the famous Greek furniture maker al2 and it is a practical and genuinely different product in terms of design and materials. The base is made from a single wooden-stripe structure finished in metal lacquer and shaped in a tear shape.

This is the kind of base that looks different from every angle - if you look from directly above, it would feel like the base rests directly below the top but then if you look from the side, it has a very organic and intriguing look which is quite extraordinary for a round table.

It's available in different sizes - from 120cm to 180cm - making it an ideal circular dining table set for 4 people if you choose the smaller size and six to eight if you go for a larger variation. The top can be customised in different type of woods - including multiple oak tones, American walnut, Canaletto walnut and smoked eucalyptus. Then there are different ceramic Maxfine options like Calacatta Oro, Black Marquina, Sahara noir and more.

My recommendation is to go for a glass top as it does complete justice to its base - you can opt for transparent, bronze or fume.

And finally comes the base, which too is customisable in bronze, gold, silver and more. For those who want a base with a sculptural or striking base - this is an option that's hard to miss.

Key Takeaway: The tear-shaped base of the Dakry BR 001 is the kind of detail that makes a dining room memorable - it is distinctive without being eccentric, and the breadth of top and base finish combinations means it can be positioned anywhere from quietly luxurious to confidently bold.

4. Jago by Gamma Arredamenti - The Lounge Statement

One of our designers recently used this table and chairs set in a home bar area and I must say - the results were spectacular. And I would attribute it to not just her amazing design skills but also the right choice of dining set because when paired with comfortable, loungy chairs - this table will give the most laid back luxury look ever.

Jago is a relatively new product by Gamma - our favourite Italian leather furniture brand and it's basically a lounge table that's designed to meet the modern interior design trends. It's compact but at the same time, visually striking and it was designed with lounges, man caves, wine rooms and relaxation areas in mind - places where you want a slightly informal hangout atmosphere while maintaining your distinctive aesthetic language.

Of course the most standout piece of the whole composition is the conical central base - which anchors and grounds the while structure - looking at it, I often feel like the base is similar to a tree trunk but in a more poetic composition. I would say poetic because as with other Gamma products, there are many refined details that are observed once you look carefully - like metal finishes and subtle, refined stitching details that only a true design enthusiast would be able to notice.

The circular top - available in marble or ceramic offers an ideal space for relaxing, socialising and sharing. The frame is made in wood and covered in leather - customisable in any colour or finish of your choice with all samples available in our showroom. And like all other elements, the top too is customisable in glass, marble and more. Earlier this year, at the Milan design fair, Gamma introduced a stunning new finish for this table - Rosse Lepanti marble top with a complementing burgundy leather base. The combination is perfectly in sync with the trending cherry red colour schemes but making it timeless.

Key Takeaway: Jago fills a genuine gap in the market - a circular table with the material credentials of a dining table but the proportions and atmosphere of a lounge piece. For informal entertaining in larger homes, it is refreshingly competent at doing two things at once.

5. Remington by Eichholtz - The Mid-Century Tribute

The washed oak veneer Remington Dining Table from Eichholtz reminds one of Danish design furniture from the 1950s. This elegant round dining table is the ideal furniture piece for hosting a high tea or dinner party or entertaining family and friends. Subtle contrasting white grains light up the veneer, giving the surface a depth and warmth that photography never quite captures - this is a table that reveals itself properly only in a room.

Available at 152cm diameter, the Remington is finished with a brushed brass base that reads as thoroughly contemporary whilst remaining faithful to the mid-century spirit of the piece. It is the most immediately approachable table in this list - not the most architecturally ambitious, but perhaps the most universally at home in a variety of interiors, from a Georgian townhouse with good inherited furniture to a newly developed lateral apartment where warmth is being deliberately introduced.

The Remington is also the most quietly confident piece here. It does not ask to be noticed from across the room; it rewards the approach. In a category where everyone is reaching for the dramatic gesture, there is something rather admirable about that.

Key Takeaway: The Remington is the table for clients who find the phrase "statement piece" slightly exhausting. It is beautifully made, historically informed, and entirely without pretension - which, in this market, is its own form of distinction.

6. Brenda by Laskasas - The Compact Circular Dining Table Set for 4

If you are in the market, specifically looking for a round dining table for four with an exceptional design - then my first recommendation for you would be the Brenda table by Laskasas. Handmade in Portugal from the finest quality materials - this table captures the essence of natural beauty while incorporating contemporary design elements.

And while this table is perfect for hour - I would not just limit it to that, there are many customisation options available if you want to cater to more people. And thanks to our longstanding partnership with Laskasas as well as the brand's manufacturing techniques, every piece is made to order and can be customised according to our client's needs and preferences. Which of course is the right approach for a luxury dining table which is going to be the centrepiece of your dining room for years or more likely, for decades.

The cylindrical base is designed in a way to provide excellend knee clearance for everyone seated on the table - this might sound like a small detail but it matters greatly when it comes to practical usage.

Key Takeaway: Brenda proves that a circular dining table set for 4 need not be a compromise - at this scale, the cylindrical base creates a piece that is formally complete without feeling proportionally reduced. Laskasas's customisation breadth makes it genuinely useful for bespoke project work.

7. Oscar by Opera Contemporary - The Marble Monolith

Finally on the list I have my favourite marble top round dining table - a spectacular product from Opera Contemporary that features a very gentle looking metallic base which supports a very heavy looking marble. But the fun part is that when you look at it from a certain angle, you'll see that the base is actually hollow inside and that is what gives this piece not just its sculptural quality but also the perfect balance.

The table has every single quality to become the undisputed centrepiece of a room. A fine monolithic marble top that immediately catches your eye, a metal base that is customisable in different finishes to elegantly support the top and add to its unique style. Available in different sizes but I prefer using this table in larger rooms where space is not a constraint.

And what tops everything off rather nicely is the option to add a Luzy Susan - perfect for those who entertain regularly or just prefer convenience when it comes to their meals.

Key Takeaway: Oscar is for the client who wants a marble dining table but refuses to accept that the base should be an afterthought. The hollow cylindrical form is the kind of detail that divides a merely expensive table from a genuinely designed one - and here it is rather well resolved.

Case Study: Lambda in a London Apartment

Lambda by Sovet Italia circular glass dining table in a contemporary London apartment dining room with boucle chairs, walnut sideboard, and large-format monochrome artwork

To show the versatility of these tables in real life, I want you to see this project by FCI London where one of the above tables was used - Lambda by Sovet italia  - with its circular glass top and calming presence, this table became the heart of our Hampstead Villa project. The table was placed in the open plan kitchen of this beautiful, light filled boutique apartment. There was a separate formal dining room where our client chose a rectangular, extending dining table as that was the room meant for hosting. But for the open plan living room and kitchen, they wanted something more compact and suitable for everyday use which is where the circular table came in.

The sideboard and the art above it on the wall acted as visual anchors while the table's glass top brings lightness to the room. If we had used a wood or marble top, it would have over complicated the room which is why we loved the designer's choice of glass top. Another benefit of the glass top is that the beautiful, sculptural base is fully visible from the top and can be admired fully by everyone seated on the table.

Key Takeaway: In open-plan living and dining arrangements, a circular glass dining table set resolves sightline problems that solid-top alternatives cannot - the transparency of the top allows the floor pattern and base to read as a single composition rather than a visual interruption. Lambda is, in practice, as intelligent a spatial choice as it is an aesthetic one.

How to Choose the Right Circular Dining Table Set

The most common mistake I see clients make when selecting a circular dining table set is choosing on the basis of the top material alone. The base is, in many cases, the more interesting decision - and it is the one that will most affect how the piece reads in the room. For example, the Cristalplant form of the Lambda table or the tear drop base of Darky are both sculptural bases which bring a three dimensional element to the room. Then the Oscar or Brenda's geometrical base brings an architectural element. And the Lago's conival base is more of a material statement. So they are all bringing genuinely different armosphere to the room and they need to be considered with respect to the complete design scheme of the room. Because a wrong base could completely undermine an otherwise thoughtully designed room.

The next thing to consider is the diameter and this is really worth spending time on. As a rough estimate, a 120 cm table will comfortably seat four people, 140 cm will accomodate four to five, 160 cm for six people and 180 cm will easily manage up to eight chairs. It's best to have at least 85 cm between the edge of the table and nearest wall or piece of furniture to allow for easy movement around the room. If you're unsure about what size top opt for, I usually tell my clients to go for the largest one that their room size will sensibly accomodate because a larger table is always more impressive in luxury interiors as compared to one that just floats somewhere in the room.

And finally, coming towards the top material - for round tables I have found glass to be the most popular choice as it brings lightness to the room. But for larger rooms, marble and ceramic can be good, grounded options. Wood always brings its warmth and informality while marble brings coolness and a luxe feeling. For clients who are confused between the options, I find 3D renders to be very helpful as it allows me to show them how each option would look like in their room.

Key Takeaway: The base deserves as much attention as the top when selecting a circular dining table set. Proportion, base character, and the relationship between top material and base finish are the three decisions that will determine whether a table is merely expensive or actually designed. Visit the FCI London showroom to see how multiple options resolve in three dimensions - photographs, as ever, tell only part of the story.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What diameter circular dining table set do I need for 4 people?

110 to 130 cm is usually sufficient for a circular dining table set for 4 as it offers enough elbow room and a good amount of space for the dishes. If the room is big enough, I would suggest going for 140cm with 4 big dining chairs that offer comfortable seating. My clients have never regretted going with a slightly larger table than what they initially had in mind because extra space is always benificial.

Q. Is a circular glass dining table set practical for everyday use?
Genuinely, yes - as long as you choose a good quality table and glass. Extralight or tempered glass tops in 12mm or above are usually recommended for daily use as they are easier to maintain and less prone to scratches. The transparency of the glass top means that the table's base and floowing will always be visible so if they are something you are proud of, this is a good advantage.

Q. How do I pair dining chairs with a circular dining table?
The fact that round tables dont have corners means that chairs can easily be adjusted around the table - which is often a conflict with rectangular or square tables. Just make sure that the base and size of your chairs is compatible so the chairs can be fully pushed under the table. In terms of the visual language, I have found that chairs with a good back profile work best, for example upholstered chairs or those with slanted legs at the back, this is because the back of the chairs will be visible from every angle of the room so since that is the angle you will be looking at daily, you want it to be something that makes you feel good and at home.
