The Serip Lighting Story

The brand’s history dates back to 1961 when it was established by Mário J. Pires Lda to manufacture chandeliers from glass and brass. In the following two decades, the company’s success led them to explore new horizons.

In the 1980s, Serip created their first organic chandelier – a product well ahead of its time in terms of design – an outcome that resulted in the company exploring international markets. It was at this time that the ‘catalogue of nature’ was launched. Building on this success, the company adopted an organisation-wide organic concept that continues to prevail at Serip.

Today, Serip offers an awe-inspiring range of exquisite, luxury lighting that is inspired by natural elements including birds and trees – pieces that are unrivalled in its authenticity and its ability to create unique settings.

In a world where industrial and mechanical production processes have led to most brands focusing on monotonous products in symmetrical shapes, Serip’s designs are distinguishable because of its disproportionate and asymmetrical forms mimicking the powerful, distinguishable elements of nature.

Every Serip piece is unique because of its commitment to its organic concept underpinned by an almost complete absence of mechanical elements in the production phase. As a result, no two Serip pieces will ever look and every lighting sculpture is a fully customised, handcrafted work of art.

All Serip’s products are designed and produced in Portugal as a collective artistic collaboration between its designers, artisans and technical teams. Every product is handmade at the 3,000sqm Lisbon workshop. However, the company has also made a significant investment in technology such as 3D printers and website simulators to ensure the final product is of uncompromising quality.
