A home that needed to evolve alongside its owners from couple to family, from casual to considered. Our Senior Designer, created distinct zones for living, entertaining, and growing, all flowing seamlessly together.
At FCI, we believe that great design is about more than just aesthetics, it’s about creating spaces that serve the unique needs of those who inhabit them. For our lovely client, Anu, this meant designing a home that was as functional as it was beautiful, blending comfort with elegance, and adapting to her evolving lifestyle as a new mother. Our approach was to craft a home that offered distinct spaces for relaxation, entertaining, and family life, while maintaining a cohesive flow that felt personal, welcoming, and timeless.
The original layout presented a common architectural challenge: a sprawling, undifferentiated ground floor that lacked definition or purpose. "There was never a distinction between spaces," Anu recalls. The brief to our Senior Interior Designer, Rey, was deceptively simple - create individual rooms with distinct identities whilst maintaining a sense of cohesion throughout. The result is a masterclass in spatial planning.
Anu’s home is a reflection of her dynamic taste a perfect blend of minimalist design with moments of bold personality. “We wanted each space to have its own identity, but at the same time, everything needed to flow together,” Anu explains. From the beautiful, carefully chosen wallpaper in the dining room to the quirky lamp shades with floral and artistic elements, the home was designed with a personal touch at every corner.
The dining area’s choice of a minimalist oval table with clean lines complemented the soft geometric wallpaper, creating an unexpected harmony. “It all started with the wallpaper,” Anu says. “I fell in love with it and then everything else came together.” The kitchen, with its blue accents tying together the dining area, created a calm, cohesive environment. It’s a space that truly brings the family together, whether for an evening meal or weekend cooking sessions.
Anu's home is a reflection of her personal style, especially her love for fashion and design. One of the most exciting elements was the creation of a dedicated space for her beloved shoe collection. Her collection of stilettos, a true passion of hers, was carefully displayed in a custom-designed feature that transformed a simple storage area into an elegant showcase. FCI worked with her to create a fitted wardrobe where her shoes and bags were both a visual delight and a functional addition to the home, making sure the display was both practical and stunning.
The reconfigured reception room now serves multiple masters with effortless ease. At its heart sits the Sunset sofa by Gamma and Dandy - a modular leather sofa with an adjustable seat depth mechanism that makes it equally suited to a relaxed family afternoon and a polished evening with guests. On weekends, it's a relaxed family retreat. Come evening, it transforms into something altogether more refined - a sophisticated space for pre-dinner drinks by the fireplace, where guests can settle in properly (stilettos and all) without the indignity of sinking back into overly casual seating.
"I hate going to spaces where if I'm wearing a dress, I do not want to be lying down right at the back with my dress high up," Anu explains with characteristic candour. "I still want to be able to sit in a way that is more appropriate, especially when we're all glammed up."
It's this attention to the practicalities of real life - the unglamorous truths of entertaining - that separates thoughtful design from merely decorative intervention.
Anu's journey with FCI was more than just about building a home - it was about creating a space that was uniquely hers, one that would adapt to her family's needs and grow with them. Every room tells a story of thoughtful design, personal style, and the love of family. From the master bedroom to the garden, her home is a place where functionality, comfort, and beauty come together seamlessly, reflecting the heart and soul of her family.
