Theo Eichholtz is a fervent antiques collector. For years he travelled far and wide, scouring the markets of the world to uncover rare ornaments. On one of these trips to Asia in the early 1990s, he became enchanted by a collection of Chinese colonial furniture and decided to import it back to his home in Holland. At that moment, Eichholtz Furniture was born.

Over time Eichholtz began to trade with carefully selected furniture businesses that resold their products. They built own-brand stores in key core market regions such as Saint Petersburg, Miami and Barcelona so customers could immerse themselves in the Eichholtz world.

Instead, they prefer to keep their design artistry in-house, led by their head of design, Edwin van der Gun. Theo Eichholtz is the founder of Dutch furniture brand Eichholtz. Theo was the son of a supermarket owner, so business has always been in his blood. Theo’s passion for ambience, atmosphere and antiques led him a trip through Asia and America in the early 1990s, looking for original relics for his collection. It was this trip that provided the inspiration to import antique furniture into his home country of Holland. He returned home and together with his boyhood friend, Auke Wichers, they started what would become the first incarnation of Eichholtz.

The Eichholtz style can be described as eclectic, luxurious and glamorous. Even though industry insiders have a clear idea of what constitutes the Eichholtz style, Eichholtz doesn’t hold to this notion themselves. In their own words: "Even though we always work from a central idea, we set different, innovative and dynamic goals when creating a new collection.” Theo Eichholtz firmly believes that the eye has to travel and he incorporates this into everything that the brand creates.
