Born from an idea of Giorgio and Sylvia Cattelan that sparked in 1979, Cattelan Italia was founded. The company started out as a producer of small complements and tables made of marble intended for the export market. As a son of a famous carpenter in Thiene, near Vicenza, you would think that Giorgio Cattelan would use wood as a primary material instead of marble. His combined knowledge, however, has helped him face market needs and extended his product range. In 1989, the collection has expanded to chairs, bookcases and other complements. The company also began working with wood, metal, glass and leather.

In 2011, Cattelan Italia bought ARKETIPO, a Florentine company known all over the world for its sophisticated and haute couture products. This is when the company ventured into the upholstery world, with one of Giorgio’s son, Lorenzo, at the helm of Arketipo. His other son, Paolo, takes care of the marketing, and has been a key person in the commercial and design evolution of Cattelan Italia.

Today, the company still creates beautiful marble furnishings, but has become one of the biggest furniture manufacturers in Italy that has diversified its production system. Its product range has extended to include beds, desks, mirrors, lamps and media units.
