Different Ways Of Designing Your Living Room

living room designs

The living room should be a comfortable place for everyone inside the house; it’s where both the host and guest relax. Some call it the living room, sitting room, or a lounge. The design you pick for the living room will be determined by your inspiration and the size of the space available. The size plays a huge role because the same design that would work for a small space wouldn’t work for an expansive one.  A nicely designed living room is more than just what the eye can see, it is also about comfort. Thus, you have to bear this very fact in mind from the time you pick your furniture, curtains, carpets, paint the walls, and so on. The main goal should be to attain comfort and stylishness, elegance and luxury are secondary additions that ought to come in later.

Tips to Design your Living Room

  1. Decorating with mirrors; if your living room is small or with limited space, you can use mirrors to creatively make the space look more spacious. Hanging a large mirror in the middle of the room or somewhere in the center helps create a new focal point in the entire space. Placing the mirror right opposite the window is another smart way of helping reflect and disperse natural light filtering through. Still, you could place the mirror just behind a light source like a pendant lamp or a candle; this helps create a nice ambiance.

  2. Using neutral colors; interior designers are increasingly recommending the use of neutral colors for living rooms, from the walls, ceilings, and the furniture inside.  Neutral and soft hues help make a small space appear larger; they create the false illusion of pushing back the walls. They also help create a calm environment and one that beckons you to just sit and relax. Bright colors on the other hand are distractions, these are best reserved to kid’s rooms who need the bright colors to keep their inquisitive minds alert.
  3.  Use wall papers; wall papers have become a crucial part of interior designing and more so in designing of living rooms. They are highly customizable and can be used to create any mood and feel in the living room. But like aforementioned, avoid overly bright colors and designs in the living room, keep it dull and neutral. Get wallpapers that aren’t so bright, hopefully something like brown, grey, white, or ocean blue will do. The wallpapers have to be fixed professionally so that a visitor would never notice any uncovered edges between the wall and ceiling, or wall and floor.

  4. Go vintage; even with the modern and contemporary living room designs, there’s still something unique and irresistible about vintage design. If your budget allows it, get some nice leather upholstery to cover your dining chairs, get a nice vintage fire chair next to your fireplace. Rather than brightly colored floral curtains, get some dull colored drapes that can be pulled on one side to allow in natural light during the day. Instead of bright lights and bulbs, how about something more subtle and duller? The thought of resting on your vintage fire chair next to a fire place, over a book and with a reading lamp resting not so far away; some things will just never go out of style.

The perfect way of designing your living room will be greatly determined by the space you have at your disposal. It’s best to work with an experienced interior designer who’ll help advice you on the best way to make do with limited space. The same applies for spacious living rooms; you have to get the right design that’ll make the most out of that space.
